The view from the office. Notice in the last picture, the guy with no leg humpin' it down the street. Common attitude in Taiwan. "I'm missing a leg. So what. No-one needs to feel sorry for me, I'll just get out there and get the shit done." Something at least Nickster should be able to get a good feeling from. The first picture is a guy named "Nick" from the United States. Teaches English and does sales for SuperPoll. The final guy is Winchell. That's the name I gave him because I'm a sadistic bastard. Actually, it is similar to his Chinese name (right, Val?). He was gonna be called Brian, but I wouldn't let that one go. On the left, Sean, my coworker. He seemed to be most similar to a Val. DBA, PC Tech Support, Exchange Server admin, NT Admin, etc. On the right, Bert, my cool boss. He was clued in 99% of the time, and worked pretty hard. An amazing bunch. Winchell and Sean doin' what they do best. Heh. Heheh. Look at my 'related skill' box. I knew no-one would ever read this, so adding "Skillz" and "L337 H4x0r5" seemed quite natural to me. How embarassing. I started doing three fingers to counter the Taiwanese two-finger thing, and now I find out this is the George Idiot Bush 'victory sign.' Now everyone is gonna think I'm Republican or something. The last two pictures are pictures with Daisy. Ah... Daisy! Daisy holds a special place in my heart, since I never talked to her or even saw her before these pictures were taken, but Sean told me: "Let's get a picture of you with Daisy." I personally think Sean was moving in on Daisy or something. Both pictures were taken by Sean. Pre-lunchtime Blues. You can see most of the crew here, since the elevator has mirrored walls. You can even see my arms in the background! Here we are, heading for lunch... this one is interesting. We got to the restaurant, but all their tables were full. We had a full party, as you can see, so the restaurant owner didn't want to turn us away. Instead, he put us... ...in his living room. Yep. This is a standard Taiwanese living room. Coffee table in the middle, which was cleared of magazines, newspapers, and the like, and set up with chopsticks and soy sauce for our dumpling lunch. I was kinda astounded at that one. Fenny came to the office on my last day to accompany me home and such. The backpack is for my nice Microsoft ergonomic keyboard. You see that picture where Fenny is looking left of the frame and making a face like: "Whoah. I see something I'm not supposed to see..." Well, to the left is a full-height floor-to-ceiling untinted window that views right into the Men's Room. That's right. And just behind me, there is another window just like it that gives you a perfect view right into the Women's Room. I'm not sure what the designers were thinking... but then on the other hand, once I was in the Men's room washing my hands, and the cleaning lady just walked right in and started washing her mop. The guys standing at the urinals didn't seem to mind or take any undue note of her presence, either. Maybe they just aren't as paranoid about people seeing them pee here in Taiwan? Me with the SuperPoll logo (from the beginning... remember?) and the security guard who said "Good Morning" to me every day for a couple of weeks. He was pretty cool. |
