New Zealand Pictures/28. a Very Long Unabridged Photojournalistic N Z Holiday/South Island/15. Christchurch Day 2

Here are some interior shots of our room at the Vagabond in Chch. Notice Fenny sitting on the bed playing on the laptop. What could she possibly be doing on holiday with the laptop? Well, I'll tell you. That little book in her hand has recorded in it every dollar we've spent on our trip thus far. She is transcribing those values into a Linux spreadsheet program (kspread) and getting totals and percentages and averages. You might think she's an accountant, eh?

Here are the impromptu Cathedral Square shops. These are dodgy little tent shops that sell you overpriced trinket souvenires. I tend to wonder what would happen if you got something defective from one of these merchants...

Some human-powerd boats on the river.

Oh, wow. Where do I begin? Fenny and I were travelling on the bus through Chch when we saw this film production going on. There was a very fat director that would whistle after every cut. There were dancers that would dance. There was a sound man that would play some funckey dance music for each cut. There were gaffers and mixers and players and movers and shakers. It was all good. Fenny and I mixed. You can see Fenny standing right in with the staff, watching the cuts on the monitor, and otherwise really checking it all out. The woman with the yellow outfit appeared to be the star. The crew told us that this was her first feature film. And this was a full feature film, not just a music video (which we'd assumed it was). I took pictures of as many people doing as many interesting things as I could. As you can tell, there are a LOT of photographs. If you want the story of any given picture, just let me know, and I'll type it up.

Here is a Maori totem pole near the water's edge. Also, one of the cast or crew of the Indian film has wandered here for a little break. Shortly after this shot was taken, she was whistled at by the director, and she went running off in his direction.

Some of the Chch wildlife.

Some particularly loud and rambunctious Chch wildlife. This one was preaching about Jesus and God and Heaven and Hell. I guess in a place named Christchurch, in the middle of Cathedral Square, you have a hard time avoiding this type of sham.

Oh, this is classic. This is just classic. The poor man.

More Chch wildlife! Big and in your face.

More architecture. Starbucks has all the good stuff.

More Chch wildlife. These very bright-coloured and flamboyant!

These pictures of Fenny being very happy and satisfied were taken when she was recounting a story of getting a very big stuffed hamburger from a Burger King in Oakland, CA. She looked back on the event with great fondness and seemed to be looking forward to the day when she could buy another hamburger from Burger King in Oakland.

More Chch wildlife in their native habitat.

First Choice orange juice. So far the second best-tasting orange juice I've found on my trip through New Zealand... The best is Simply Squeezed, but this is a close second. What to note: it actually has orange juice concentrate in it. So it isn't just freshly-squeezed I like. In fact, there was some OJ that was freshly squeezed that I thought tasted quite shite. I cannot remember the brand.
