New Zealand Pictures/28. a Very Long Unabridged Photojournalistic N Z Holiday/South Island/08. Kaikoura to Christchurch

Sometimes I call Fenny the Fennmonsterfish. There are reasons for this. Only sometimes do I get a picture that explains it all.

Some cool lit-up cloud tendrils hanging out of the sky on the horizon required my photographic recording skills. So I took pictures. As always.

Some of the more exotic New Zealand wildlife isn't afraid of you at all and just sits on rocks ignoring your presence whilst you photograph them. Sheep are the exception to this rule. Sheep are so afraid of you, they will run if you get within 20 metres of them.

Back to the 'museum.' I love furniture of this size. It makes me look like a tiny little tourist man.

More pictures of the exterior and interior of the 'museum' -- I paid something like a New Zealand dollar to go inside and found out there was only the one tiny little room, and you couldn't even go upstairs, so I took as many pictures as I possibly could. I even snuck upstairs to see what was up there. Just a boring mattress and some crap. I think maybe sometimes someone will stay up there.

You have to journey far far away from the nearest town before you can find such exotic plant life as this in New Zealand. These pictures were taken at least 30 kilometres from town. Or wait. Maybe it wasn't too far from town. I can't remember. Maybe you can take a close look at the pictures and determine if they were taken in town or out in the wild bush.

After journeying back into town again, we stopped at the post shop to take pictures of pens and pencils.

Some of the New Zealand wildlife on the prowl.

We had expensive chicken and mince pies at the Why Not Cafe' and then to get our money's worth we took the photo opportunity outside.

Fenny has this ultra-serious look on her face because the rock she is standing on is unstable and rounded on the bottom, so she had to work to remain balanced on top. I took pictures because it made me laugh. I found a rock of my own that was unstable, but not nearly as unstable as hers, so I was forced to just wobble a bit.

As you might guess, Fenny is a very extreme-balancing type of person who will find the most difficult-to-stay-on places and then stay on them, just long enough for me to snap a photo or two.

Playing with Perspective Part I.

A mondo huge bee that was crawling around on the pavement whilst we were waiting for our bus. Before this picture it'd been hanging in a spider's web from a long strand. We saved it from the strand of the spider's web and put it onto the ground, where it promptly began crawling all over everywhere. It would hardly sit still long enough for me to take a picture, so some of these turned out a bit blurry, whilst others turned out a bit bright. I guess there is a salvagable photo or two in the series.

On the bus to Christchurch.

The Christchurch wildlife is a bit more sophisticated than in other parts of the New Zealand bush. Here they ponder strange black and white moveable sculptures.

Christchurch, as the name would indicate, has some sort of religious foundation. Here's the main cathedral in the middle of town. You can also get an idea of New Zealand fashion if you look at the shopkeeper lady at the bottom of the picture. These one-shoulder tops were pretty common here.

Hooray! The Old Countryhouse in Christchurch. Owned by a Welsh guy named Andy and his German partner named Gertie, they built all the furniture themselves. The stay there was again rather pleasant, although short. We arrived in the evening and left the next morning to go to Akaroa. You will get to see the pictures of Akaroa shortly. We will return to Christchurch after a few days in Akaroa, so have a little patience and we'll get there.
